EZ-5 Test Principle
The EZ-5 HIV membrane strip is based on the lateral flow immunoassay technology. The strip has two coated bands:

> one with HIV antigens
> the other with bio-reagents.

The bio-reagent band acts as the control to indicate the functionality of the strip. When fresh drop of blood is added to the serum separation pad, the serum will be separated, mixes with the conjugate and flow towards the membrane. Here, the HIV antibodies, if present, are coupled to the Gold
conjugate to form a HIV antibody-gold conjugate. As the liquid flows along the membrane by capillary action, the coated HIV specific antigens capture the HIV-antibodies-Gold conjugate, and a colored band is formed i.e. a RED line. When the rest of the liquid reaches the control
band the Gold conjugate will couple to the bio-reagent band and this, forms the control band
indicating that the reagents has completed its flow through the test strip. Thus, two red bands
indicate a positive result. If no HIV antibodies are present, the single red band at the control
line indicates a negative result.
